In August 2008 the JUMP 2K team travelled to Botswana. The team got to work in the SOS Children's Village which is an orphanage in Gaborone housing over 200 children and young people from the ages 0 to 25. Here they supported the workers and ran various workshops with the young people before planning and hosting a youth-led community musical which was well supported by the local community. The team also worked in two village schools, teaching Mathematics and English. At Bible Life International's Youth Department, which supports over 800 youth, the team ministered in music on Sundays and attended various house meetings alongside the youth pastor during the week. While working with this international church, JUMP 2K partnered with the youth pastor to host a barbeque at a street home for boys.
As the end of the six-week visit approached, so did the climax of the trip to Botswana. The team travelled to a rural village in the north of the country to provide a meal for the community, visit the locals, and most importantly, distribute the clothes, books, toys and shoes that had been donated by JUMP 2K’s partners and friends back in London. The team was able to distribute packages to 250 children and teens. In addition, we addressed the deprived village residents that had come out in numbers and spoke to Botswana's Minister of Finance and the national press.
Following our distribution in the north, the team also started the work to create libraries for cash-strapped schools in deprived areas by donating boxes of books and computers to a school in Gaborone.
