Corporate Programmes

Sista Accepting Change & Transforming Together

The project creates an environment that enables young girls/women between the ages of 13-17 years of age to share and learn from each other and special guest speakers. Activities will include discussions that aim to challenge the perceptions and stereotypes concerning vital issues such as identity, femininity, gender etc. We believe this project is critical for the target group as it aims to assist and support them through a period of their lives that can be confusing and alienating.

  Outline of Programme

Activities within the project are aimed at developing 4 key areas that we believe are crucial to the transition from girlhood to womanhood. They are:

  Personal Development

This involves exploring the young women’s current and evolving concept of ‘self’. What does it mean to be a woman; an individual? To encourage full involvement, participants will each have a personal diary/scrap book that will document their thoughts and feelings on issues covered during the sessions which are in the form of seminars, drama sessions, role play and work shops.

  Social Development

This part of the programme creates opportunities for the young women to get to know and build relationships with each other and the youth workers. Outings such as bowling, cinema, dance, drama etc will encourage the girls to grow and work together as a group in order to dissolve barriers that may hinder their participation during focused discussions.

  Skills Development

We also believe that it is important for the young girls to gain an insight towards financial development, project management, effective communication and public speaking. Specialists in these fields are invited to share their knowledge and to help equip the project’s participants with these skills.

  Health Education

This part of the programme adopts a holistic approach to health. We deal with emotional, spiritual, mental and physical health issues. Topical issues such as teenage pregnancy, abortion, sexual health, domestic violence, gangs, self-harming, eating disorders, drug and alcohol abuse are also discussed.
